Passion vs. the $$$ sign
They say when u are in your late teens till about your late 20s(however you define late) that this is the time for a person to find themselves and what they are passionate about. The trial and error stage give or take. Go out and take risk, but learn from them as you go. As long as you don't have any major obligations outside of the norm, you have this time to adventure into many different fields of interest. Find out what it is that you do. What are you good at? What will you be willing to wake up to for the rest of your working career and be satisfied with.
But what happens when you are all over the place in your search? When your life is a collection of thoughts and ideas. Interested in something one week and the next week you are wrapped in something totally different. When this happens, you tend to never build a consistent foundation in those things that you have shown interest in. So instead of knowing that you are good in one particular area, you turn out decent or have some knowledge in what ever that area may be.
When trying to find a career path, making enough money to provide a comfortable living is always the goal. But at the same time would you honestly be willing to work years at a job making good money but it's not something that you are satisfied with doing? You just built the tolerance to keep this cycle going in order to make it through the pay period.
That goes back to being passionate. Because if you are passionate about the work you do then it is less of a "job" then it appears to be.
I guess it all boils down to making calculated gambles. You never know how they will turn out but it never hurts to make an attempt
